Screenshots from FileMaker Go

There has been a lot of talk on the various FileMaker forums about how we can do demos on our laptops and projectors for FileMaker Go, without having to make people huddle around our iPhones/iPads.

As far as I can find, the answer is “Too bad, kid.” (Any Alice’s Restaurant fans out there?)

Apple does have an emulator so that you can try some i device stuff on your other computers, but FileMaker Go will not work on this emulator. FileMaker does have a specially compiled version that they use when they’re doing demos, but they’re not releasing that to the rest of us.

So what’s a poor boy to do?

Screenshots, baby. I did some googling, and here’s what I found out:

While holding down the power button, press the Home button. You’ll see your screen flash white, and the screenshot will be saved in with your photos. Then you can email that photo wherever you want.

That’s pretty easy! Some nice screenshots to show off your handiwork to people. If they want to see it in action, then yes, you’ll all have to huddle around your i device — but it’s a little better than nothing.

What I’d really like to find now is some nice frames that look like iPhones and iPads to put those screenshots in, on Web sites and proposals. Does anyone know where I can find those?

  1. Nice stuff, Steve. Thanks for the quick reply!

I totally missed this stuff on technet.

  2. Here are some tips and free templates for doing presentations of FileMaker Go with the iPad/iPhone.

    Enjoy!

  3. Thanks, guys. These are some cool links. Most of them require you to use photoshop, but one of Steve’s links had a pdf. For the pdf, you can use Preview on the Mac to put your screenshot inside the frame.

I’m not sure what you would need to do it on Windows. I don’t think you can do it with the free version of Acrobat — you may have to pay for the full version.
